The Deputy Director of Education in Kono District, Prince Ngegbeh has described the first week of the reopening of schools in the district as a total disappointment owing to the low turnout of pupils in the respective schools.
Ngegbeh has therefore blamed parents for the said low turnout a situation which he said cannot be unconnected with low or lack of supervision by the parents. He said the act of pupils staying at home when schools have reopened does not only water down the free quality school education initiative of President Bio but it also darkens the future of the pupils as quality education is the key to sustainable success or development.
He maintained that he was more disappointed in pupils of the different secondary schools in the district especially in Koidu City for not showing up since schools reopened first of September, 2022. He said the disparity in the dates for the reopening of schools is one of the traditional problems that always affects the normal turnout of pupils whenever schools are reopened and advised all to be sourcing information from the Ministry of Education or the radio stations which he described as authentic sources rather than settling for rumors which mislead.
The Deputy Director of Education in Kono District strictly warned teachers to be careful with the ways they interact with parents and their children or wards in terms of monetary affairs and appealed to parents and teachers to work or have a common understanding for the development of the pupils. Prince Ngebbeh pointed out that his Ministry is faced with many challenges among which include one hundred and sixty-five inspectors to inspect at least eight hundred and seventy-seven schools in Kono District.
