The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has a 31st May 2022 rule in favor of Sao Tome and Principe to face Guinea Bissau this month in Morocco after winning their appeal.
CAF Disciplinary Board (8th May 2022) decided to overturn the results of their match against Mauritius in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Preliminary qualifiers played on 24th March 2022 on review with the CAF Appeals Board.
After hearing both party’s presentations, the CAF Appeals Board ruled that
1. The Appeal of Sao Tome and Principe Football Association is considered admissible in form.
2. The Appeal of the Sao Tome Principe Football Association is upheld and the decision of the CAF Disciplinary Board is set aside in its entirety.
3. The result of the match between Mauritius and Sao Tome and Principe is ratified and Validated.
4. The Sao Tome and Principe Football Association shall be reimbursed for the Appeal fees.
Guinea Bissau will host Sao Tome in the Moroccan City of Agadir due to Guinea Bissau being one of the several African nations whose Stadium failed to meet the CAF International standards.
This ruling means Sao Tome Principe will now poise to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria on the matchday of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to be hosted in Ivory Coast.
As it stands in Group A, we now have Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, and Sao Tome Principe will battle it out for the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Ivory Coast.
