OPERATION DECONGEST FREETOWN CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT LAUNCHED

As Part of Continued efforts in decongesting the Central Business District in Freetown, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority – SLRSA together with its stakeholders in the transport sector, has this morning, 6th December 2021, launched an Operation to decongest Freetown and make way for free flow of vehicular and Human traffic this festive season.

The operation was launched at the SLRSA headquarters at kissy road in Freetown by the Acting Executive Director Mr James Baggie Bio.

Addressing stakeholders, Mr. Bio reminded stakeholders of the Authority’s responsibilities to promote road safety plus any other matter connected thereto. Mr James Baggie Bio admonished Stakeholders to own the operation stating that it’s a national call and a mission to save life.

“We owe this to our people and our country; we must restore sanity on our roads and thus preserve life of the vulnerable road users.” The Acting Executive Director said. He noted that Road Safety is a collective and shared responsibility and we can only succeed through concerted efforts.

The Operation to decongest Freetown during festive season was Bourne out of Mr. James Baggie Bio’s quest to ensure there’s free flow of vehicular and human traffic and to as well ameliorate the many challenges road users face plying our roads.

The operation according to the acting Executive Director will last for 2 Weeks and there would be subsequent on-the-spot checks to ensure sustainability.

The operation is being executed by SLRSA and the Sierra Leone Police with support from the   Motor Driver’s and Transport Workers Union, Traders Union, Civil Society, Commercial Bike Riders and Tricycle Union and a host of others.
