Connaught Hospital is currently managing a significant health emergency after 80 patients from the Mabela community were admitted due to severe food poisoning. While no fatalities have been reported, two patients remain in critical condition and are under intensive care.
The hospital’s emergency department became inundated with patients exhibiting symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and severe abdominal pain. Medical staff quickly diagnosed these cases as food poisoning and mobilized a rapid response team to manage the crisis effectively.
Dr. John Kamara, Chief Medical Officer at Connaught Hospital, stated, “Our team has been working round the clock to stabilize all patients. The two critically ill individuals are receiving intensive care, and we are hopeful for their recovery.”
The source of the outbreak is under investigation. Initial speculations suggest possible contamination from a local food vendor or restaurant. Health authorities are conducting thorough inspections to identify and mitigate the source to prevent further incidents.
In light of the outbreak, Connaught Hospital has issued a public advisory urging residents to be cautious about food consumption. They recommend seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms of food poisoning appear.
Connaught Hospital remains dedicated to providing comprehensive care and preventing the spread of foodborne illnesses in the community. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
