A total of 459 returned migrants have successfully completed six-week intensive skills training programme, marking a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to support reintegration and youth empowerment in Sierra Leone.

The training, which focused on demand-driven and market-ready skills, brought together returnees seeking to rebuild their lives after challenging migration experiences. Organizers confirmed that all participants completed the programme and passed their assessments, demonstrating resilience and commitment throughout the process.

The Commissioner of the National Youth Commission (NAYCOM), Joseph Maada Lahai, emphasized that the achievement was made possible through collaboration with the European Union and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sierra Leone. He noted that, under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio, the Commission continues to prioritize entrepreneurship and skills development for young people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Pauline described the graduation as a new beginning rather than an endpoint. She stated that IOM remains committed to supporting sustainable reintegration and called for continued investment in advanced training opportunities for beneficiaries.

The Principal of the Obasanjo Skills Training Centre, Yayah Kamanda, congratulated the graduates but highlighted the need for further support. He explained that while the six-week programme provided a solid foundation, many participants are seeking advanced training, toolkits, and mentorship to expand their skills and establish viable businesses. Kamanda urged stakeholders to consider a second phase of the programme to meet these needs.

Delivering the keynote address, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, underscored the importance of resilience among the graduates. He noted that their journeys reflect determination and courage, particularly for those who had previously lost hope while pursuing opportunities abroad.

Minister Sannoh added that the true impact of the programme will be evident as graduates reintegrate into their communities as entrepreneurs and role models. He commended NAYCOM and IOM for going beyond programme implementation to provide young people with a meaningful second chance.

Officials from NAYCOM reiterated that the graduation represents more than the awarding of certificates, noting that it signals a transition toward economic participation and self-reliance for the beneficiaries.
