Y-ACT SRHR Coalition was officially welcomed into the Technical Working Group dedicated to the Child and Adolescent Health and Life Skills (CAHLS) curriculum during a breakfast meeting at the Ministry of Education in New England Ville, Freetown on December 19, 2024.
The meeting convened key stakeholders, including representatives from UNFPA, Sight Savers, Plan International, and others, to discuss the importance of integrating comprehensive health education into the national curriculum.
The inclusion of the Y-ACT SRHR Coalition recognizes their exceptional contributions to promoting health and life skills among Sierra Leone’s youth.
Opening remarks were delivered by lead coalition member Theresa Masuba, who expressed gratitude to all representatives present.
Y-ACT representative Marvel Kamara highlighted the role of Amref in the project and requested a simplified version of the training manual to aid advocates in their work.
Ministry of Education representatives acknowledged the progress made thus far and promised to provide an abbreviated version of the manual. They also committed to monitoring engagement periodically to ensure effective implementation of the curriculum.
The CAHLS curriculum aims to equip children and adolescents with essential knowledge and skills to make informed health decisions.
By incorporating the Y-ACT SRHR Coalition into the Technical Working Group, the Ministry of Education aims to strengthen collaborative efforts in delivering effective health education programming.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward empowering young people in Sierra Leone with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead healthy lives and make informed choices regarding their health.
Conclusively, the inclusion of Y-ACT SRHR Coalition is expected to enhance the quality and reach of the CAHLS curriculum, ultimately benefiting a larger segment of the youth population.
