Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday urged China and Cambodia to carry forward the ironclad friendship forged by the older generations of leaders of the two countries.

Xi made the remarks in his meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, who is in China to attend the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai and for a working visit.

Xi said the two sides should enrich the “Diamond Hexagon” cooperation framework and advance the building of an all-weather China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era to a higher level.

He stressed that the two sides should accelerate the development of the Industrial Development Corridor and the Fish and Rice Corridor, upgrade traditional sectors such as electricity and agriculture, and foster emerging industries, including artificial intelligence and the digital economy.

The two sides should work together to crack down on cross-border crimes such as counterfeiting, smuggling, online gambling and telecom fraud, Xi said.

Xi said consolidating the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand and gradually building mutual trust serve the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries. He added that China supports Cambodia and Thailand in finding a solution through dialogue and consultation and stands ready to continue playing a constructive role in this regard.

Hun Manet expressed gratitude to China for its selfless support and assistance to Cambodia’s economic and social development over the years.

He noted that regardless of shifts in the international situation, Cambodia’s policy of pursuing close friendly cooperation with China will never change.

Cambodia firmly upholds the one-China policy and will work with China to deepen political mutual trust, expand bilateral trade, advance cooperation on major infrastructure and other key projects, and intensify efforts to combat telecom fraud, Hun Manet said.

He also thanked China for actively promoting peace talks and advancing a peaceful settlement to the border disputes between Cambodia and Thailand and noted that Cambodia will stick to dialogue and negotiations to ease the situation.
