Twenty-six-year-old Ibrahim Koroma, a welder, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2.
Koroma is facing two counts of Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, contrary to law, and Sacrilege, contrary to Section 24 of the Larceny Act, 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Sunday, 16 August 2026, at Masjid Zaiabiah Jammat Mosque No. 2, Marjay Brookfield, Freetown, Western Area, Koroma allegedly conspired with other persons, who are currently unknown, to commit the offence of sacrilege.
Count Two alleged that on the same date and at the same location, the accused stole two amplifiers, each valued at twenty-five thousand new Leones (NLe25,000), with a total value of fifty thousand new Leones (NLe50,000). The amplifiers are said to be the property of the mosque.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken, as the matter is being handled as committal proceedings.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, informed the court that he had served the accused with copies of the case and inquiry files.
The accused acknowledged receipt of the documents.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Fornah refused bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences.
The matter was adjourned to 10 September 2026 for further proceedings.
