The Western Region Football Referees Association (WARFRA) has successfully concluded a one-day refresher course for referees and instructors/assessors from across the Western Region, covering both urban and rural areas.
The course, held on September 9, 2026, formed part of the ongoing efforts of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Referees Department to ensure that match officials remain physically fit, technically competent and familiar with the latest requirements of the Laws of the Game.
The programme comprised two main components: a practical fitness session and a technical classroom session.
The practical session was held at the Approved School Field and facilitated by Mrs. Zainab Wilson, Fitness Instructor and member of the Referees Committee. It focused on assessing and strengthening the physical preparedness and fitness levels required of referees ahead of forthcoming football competitions.
The technical session was later held at the 20/20 Hotel Hall and facilitated by Alhaji Dawdu Williams, Technical Instructor and Vice Chairman of the Referees Committee.
Participants were taken through key technical areas, with particular emphasis on the interpretation and practical application of the latest amendments to the Laws of the Game.
The programme was closely supervised by the Referees Manager, who ensured that the new amendments were properly communicated and understood by all participants.
The successful completion of the course highlights WARFRA’s commitment to maintaining high professional standards in refereeing and ensuring that match officials are adequately prepared to perform their duties with competence, consistency, discipline and integrity.
The WARFRA Executive expressed appreciation to all participants, members of the Referees Committee and other stakeholders whose commitment and participation contributed to the success of the programme.
WARFRA reaffirmed its commitment to continuous education and professional development as it prepares match officials for the demands of the forthcoming football season.
