Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has called for the timely completion of rehabilitation works at Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU), urging contractors and project managers to address outstanding challenges at the institution’s Goderich and Congo Cross campuses.

The Vice President made the call during an inspection of the BADEA-supported rehabilitation project, where he assessed progress and discussed challenges affecting the timely delivery of the works.

At the Congo Cross campus, Dr. Juldeh Jalloh noted that students had already begun using some of the rehabilitated classrooms.

At the Goderich campus, he expressed satisfaction with the quality of work completed so far, including progress on the construction of hostels for male and female students.

“My role is to support the contractors, project managers and consultants so that they can deliver these projects,” he said, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in resolving outstanding challenges and ensuring timely completion.

The inspection followed a directive from President Julius Maada Bio for the Vice President to monitor government-supported projects nationwide and help ensure their completion.

The rehabilitation project forms part of broader efforts to improve higher and technical education infrastructure and provide better learning facilities for students.

Civil society activist Alphonso Manley welcomed the progress made on the BADEA-supported project, particularly the classrooms already in use, but called for continued monitoring to ensure the works are completed on schedule.

“So far, so good. We appreciate the progress, though more work remains to be done,” Manley said.

He urged the Government to provide adequate funding and maintain regular monitoring to help contractors meet the agreed timelines.

Project managers at both campuses assured the Vice President of their commitment to completing the remaining works on schedule.

Dr. Juldeh Jalloh also said he would revisit the campuses soon to assess progress and ensure that outstanding works are completed and the facilities handed over for use.
