In a demonstration of commitment to human rights, U.S. Ambassador Hunt visited the Educational Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Grafton, spotlighting its vital role in supporting at-risk young women.

This visit coincides with the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a campaign aimed at raising awareness and advocating for change.

During his visit, Ambassador Hunt praised the Center’s efforts in empowering individuals with disabilities through vocational training and access to essential resources, including audio and braille materials. “People with disabilities are not asking for special rights, just basic human rights,” he stated, emphasizing the need for inclusivity and the protection of human dignity.

The Center plays a crucial role in fostering economic independence among women and girls with disabilities, breaking cycles of dependency that can lead to gender-based violence. By providing technical skills and support, the organization is equipping these young women to lead self-sufficient lives, a critical step in combating the vulnerabilities they face.

Ambassador Hunt’s visit not only highlights the challenges faced by people with disabilities but also underscores the U.S. commitment to advocating for human rights. “Together, we can continue building an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of ability, lives free from violence and with dignity,” he remarked.

This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the 16 Days of Activism, which focuses on eradicating gender-based violence and promoting equality.

The work being done at the Educational Center is a testament to the positive impact that targeted support and advocacy can have on marginalized communities.

Conclusively, as the campaign continues, the U.S. Embassy remains dedicated to supporting organizations that empower individuals and promote human rights, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued in the fight against gender-based violence.
