Two men, 22-year-old plumber Abu Sankoh and 45-year-old marketer Alie Alhassan Kabia, have been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown after appearing before Magistrate Jah on allegations of conspiracy to commit a felony and office breaking and larceny, contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act, 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, the accused persons allegedly, on Friday, 3rd July 2026, at the Former National Workshop, Cline Town, Freetown, broke into the office of Guoji Company with the intention of stealing. They are accused of stealing US$43,000 in cash and Le1,092,000, property belonging to Guoji Company.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused persons, no plea was taken, as the matter is before the court for committal proceedings.
The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eric A. Deen, informed the court that he had served copies of the case file and inquiry file on defence counsel.
Counsel representing both accused persons, I. Conteh Esq., applied for bail, stating that he had reliable sureties who were willing and ready to enter recognizance on behalf of the accused. He assured the court that the accused would not interfere with prosecution witnesses and would not abscond while on bail.
The bail application was made pursuant to Section 76(1)(c) of the Criminal Procedure Act, 2024.
However, Magistrate Jah refused bail, citing the seriousness of the offences before the court. The matter was subsequently adjourned to 30th July 2026 for further proceedings.
