The Chief Executive Officer of Trocaire has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to promoting gender equality and child protection in Sierra Leone during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs.
The visit, held in Freetown on Tuesday, was aimed at strengthening the longstanding partnership between Trocaire and the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs in advancing the rights, welfare, and protection of women and children across the country.
During the meeting, the Trocaire CEO congratulated the Minister on what he described as her exemplary leadership and commended the Ministry’s continued efforts in promoting gender equality and safeguarding children’s rights.
He also praised the Government of Sierra Leone for introducing key legislative reforms, including the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act, 2022, and the Child Rights Act, 2025, describing them as landmark achievements that have strengthened the protection and empowerment of women and children.
The CEO further expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving the lives of women, girls, and children, noting that Trocaire remains dedicated to supporting these initiatives.
In response, the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs thanked Trocaire for its continued partnership and contributions towards advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, and child welfare in Sierra Leone.
She described Trocaire as a reliable development partner whose interventions continue to complement government’s efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable society.
The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with development partners to implement policies and programmes that protect children’s rights while creating greater opportunities for women and girls.
The meeting concluded with both the Ministry and Trocaire pledging to deepen their collaboration in promoting child protection, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls throughout Sierra Leone.
