Three individuals are facing trial before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 for allegedly stealing $7,000 while working as caretakers at the apartment of Sierra Leonean football star Kai Kamara.
The accused Abubakarr Turay, Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter, Kadiatu Turay are charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, in violation of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged theft occurred on January 15, 2025, at Fadika Drive, Hill Station, Freetown. Prosecutors claim that the three individuals conspired to steal $7,000 (Le170,100), the property of Kai Kamara.
When the charges were read in court, Abubakarr Turay pleaded not guilty, while Fatmata Bangura and Kadiatu Turay admitted to the offense.
In today’s testimony, PW4 Forneh Kargbo, a detective constable (14010) from Moriba Village, Freetown, and an investigator with the Criminal Investigation Department, took the stand. She recognized the second and third accused persons and confirmed she knew the complainant, Kai Kamara.
Kargbo recalled that on Wednesday, 16 November 2025, she was on duty at the Criminal Investigation Department when the complainant, Kai Kamara, reported the theft for investigation. On that same day, Kargbo and a team of officers visited the scene at the back of Fadika Drive.
Upon arrival, the complainant identified the second accused, Fatmata Bangura. Kargbo and her colleagues questioned the second accused, and she was arrested at the residence. A search warrant was obtained, and during the investigation, 11,150 Leones was discovered. However, the second accused denied the allegations during her interrogation.
Due to inconsistent information provided by the witness, the matter was adjourned. The trial will continue on 6 May 2025.
