The Chairman of the Kono District Human Rights Committee (KDHRC), Patrick Fayia Mansaray, has disclosed to this medium that a man accused of sexually abusing his 8-year-old stepdaughter several years ago has finally been arrested. The suspect, who had been on the run, was apprehended through the efforts of KDHRC members and handed over to the police.

Mr. Mansaray stated that the arrest was made possible through persistent advocacy, coordination, community engagement, and effective reporting mechanisms, all aimed at protecting the rights of vulnerable children in the district.

According to him, the suspect had been evading justice after allegedly sexually penetrating his stepdaughter, who is now 10 years old. The chairman emphasized that the arrest sends a strong message to the public: sexual violence against children will not be tolerated in Kono District or anywhere in the country.

He expressed hope that the judiciary will handle the case with the seriousness it deserves, ensuring that justice is served and that the outcome deters others from committing similar crimes.

Mr. Mansaray also reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to safeguarding children and promoting justice, dignity, and accountability throughout the district. He extended his gratitude to committee members, law enforcement agencies, and other partners for their dedication and hard work.

He concluded by assuring the public that the committee will continue to monitor the case closely to ensure not only that justice is delivered, but also that the young survivor receives all the necessary support, care, and protection throughout the legal process.
