Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has commenced a seven-day residential data analysis workshop to review and assess information collected during the 2026 Mock Census exercise, as preparations continue for the country’s upcoming Population and Housing Census.
The workshop, which began on 3 August and will conclude on 9 August 2026, is being held at Galliness Paradise Hotel along the Bo-Kenema Highway in Bo City.
The exercise brings together technical experts, statisticians, data analysts and other key stakeholders from Stats SL to examine data generated during the Mock Census, identify operational gaps and draw lessons that will help improve the implementation of the main census.
The workshop is designed to strengthen participants’ capacity in data processing, quality assurance, interpretation and management of census information to ensure the production of accurate and reliable population statistics.
Organizers highlighted that the Mock Census represents a crucial testing phase for the 2026 Population and Housing Census. It provides an opportunity to assess census tools, procedures, digital platforms and field operations while identifying challenges that need to be addressed before the actual census.
They noted that the analysis of the Mock Census data will generate important evidence to guide decision-making and enhance the overall preparedness of the census team.
The workshop forms part of Stats SL’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Sierra Leone’s national statistical system and ensure that population data collected are accurate, timely and useful for national planning and development.
The initiative is supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which continues to provide technical and financial assistance to improve Sierra Leone’s population data systems and strengthen census processes.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants are expected to develop key recommendations that will inform the final stages of preparation for the 2026 Population and Housing Census, contributing to a more efficient, transparent and successful census exercise.
