The Executive of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority Football Club (SLPHA FC) has demanded that the team win the 2026–2027 Leone Rock Premier League title as the new season approaches.
The demand was made during a meeting between the club’s Executive and technical team on Monday, October 5, 2026, to assess the team’s readiness for the new season and review its performance during the 2025–2026 campaign.
Chairman of SLPHA FC, Abubakarr Kamara, Esq., described the meeting as a frank discussion, urging the technical team and Executive to identify the shortcomings that contributed to the team’s sixth-place finish last season.
Kamara said Management was dissatisfied with the outcome, particularly because the team had been in a strong position to challenge for the league title after 15 years of waiting.
“We did not relegate, but the outcome was not as favourable as our expenditure,” Kamara told the technical team.
He noted that the club’s final position did not reflect the level of investment made by SLPHA Management, headed by Director General Yankuba Askia Bio.
Kamara said Management had provided the players and other resources requested by the technical team ahead of the new season as part of efforts to strengthen the club and improve its chances of winning the Premier League.
“We, Management, will not relent in our support to the club, but we will equally not accept anything other than winning the Premier League this season,” Kamara said.
He urged the technical team to work professionally to deliver a successful season, while stressing the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with the players and building team cohesion.
Responding, SLPHA FC Head Coach Hassan Miller Sesay assured the club’s Executive that the technical team and players would give their best in the quest for the title.
“We let the trophy slip away from our hands as we missed it by a whisker. We have learnt from our mistakes and will do better. This we promise,” Sesay said.
He thanked the club’s Executive and SLPHA Director General Yankuba Askia Bio for their continued support and commitment to the team.
“This time around, your efforts, time and resources will not go in vain. The ‘Waterfront Boyz’ are determined, and so are we [the technical team],” Sesay assured the Executive.
SLPHA FC will begin its 2026–2027 Leone Rock Premier League campaign on Sunday, October 11, 2026, when the ‘Waterfront Boyz’ face East End Lions FC at the Trade Centre in Freetown.
With Management demanding the league title, the club enters the new season with increased expectations to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish.
