In a diplomatic exchange showcasing solidarity and collaboration, the Slovenian Ambassador to Türkiye, His Excellency Gorazd Renčelj, paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba at the Chancery Building in Ankara on Thursday, 16 May 2024. The meeting served as a platform for the two envoys to discuss mutual support and cooperation during their respective tenures as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Slovenia, having commenced its second term as a non-permanent member of the UNSC on 1 January 2024, stands alongside Sierra Leone, Algeria, South Korea, and Guyana in shaping global security discourse and policy. Ambassador Renčelj conveyed his admiration for Sierra Leone’s President, His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, following Sierra Leone’s election to the UNSC in the Non-Permanent Category.
Expressing gratitude for the visit, Ambassador Kaisamba emphasized the significance of collaboration among member states within the UNSC framework. He underscored Sierra Leone’s commitment to leveraging its newfound position to advocate for the common African perspective on UN Security Council reform.
Ambassador Kaisamba reiterated Sierra Leone’s dedication to amplifying a collective voice that champions and safeguards African interests within the UNSC. Notably, Sierra Leone’s election to the Council, supported by a significant majority of UN member states, is perceived as a testament to the nation’s diligence under President Julius Maada Bio’s leadership.
As both nations embark on their respective UNSC mandates, the meeting between Ambassador Renčelj and Ambassador Kaisamba highlights the shared commitment to advancing international peace and security through diplomatic cooperation and dialogue.
