On April 6, 2025, Sierra Leone marked the International Day of Sports with a strong emphasis on health and physical activity. The event was organized by the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Health, in partnership with the World Health Organization and other stakeholders, under the theme: “Leaving the Playing Field: Promoting Physical Activity for Health.”
The celebration featured participation from key officials, including Madam Augusta James Teima, the Minister of Sports, representatives from the Ministry of Health, the National Sports Authority, the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone, and various sports association presidents.
Held at the Beach Volleyball Complex on Lumley Beach, the event joined a global celebration of sports and health. It commenced at the Youyi Building Complex, where representatives from different sports associations gathered before parading through the streets of Freetown, showcasing vibrant performances and culminating at the beach venue.
