Sixty-year-old Saidu Kamara, a security guard, has been granted bail after making his first appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on a charge of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20(1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act, 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, Kamara allegedly converted a blue TVS tricycle, bearing registration number AZH 105 and valued at Le79, 050, to his own use and benefit on Monday, 12 October 2026, at Edward Street, Freetown.

Police Constable 18456 Linda Teh is prosecuting the matter on behalf of the Inspector General of Police.

During the proceedings, defence counsel M. Vandi and E. Vandi applied for bail on behalf of the defendant.

In their application, counsel told the court that Kamara is a Sierra Leonean residing at No. 8 Z, Sumalia Town, Freetown. They said he is married with one child and employed by ISB Security Agency.

The defence argued that the defendant was not a flight risk and would not interfere with prosecution witnesses. Counsel further informed the court that he had credible sureties willing to stand as sureties for him and that he was prepared to attend court whenever required.

They also submitted that Kamara had previously been granted police bail following his arrest and had complied with its conditions by making himself available whenever required.

Counsel urged the magistrate to exercise his discretion in favour of the defendant, citing Section 76(1) (c) of the Criminal Procedure Act, 2024 (Act No. 8 of 2024).

Magistrate Jah subsequently granted Kamara bail in the sum of Le400,000, with two sureties. The sureties are required to produce valid identification cards for verification and approval by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).

The matter was adjourned to 5 October 2026.
