PUJEHUN DISTRICT CENSUS COORDINATOR DISPATCHES 53 CARTOGRAPHIC MAPPERS

Mohamed Kallon, the Pujehun District Census Coordinator has on Sunday 28th March disclosed that his office had dispatched 53 cartographic mappers across Pujehun district for the cartographic mapping exercise leading to the 2021 Mid Term Housing and Population Census.

Speaking to this medium in an exclusive interview, the Pujehun district Census Coordinator maintained that the Mid Term Housing and Population Census aimed at correcting the anomalies that were embedded in the 2015 Census which according to him greatly hinged on the execution of developmental activities by government and donor partners. “There are several anomalies in the 2015 census. It is very difficult to ascertain the number of people residing in a particular locality. People often complained that they were not counted during the 2015 Census. We want to get a credible data that represents Sierra Leone in all spheres” he said.

The former PuDSA President reiterated that his office had trained and dispatched 53 cartographic mappers to start the Cartographic Mapping process in Pujehun district. Noting that, the cartographic mapping geared towards categorizing communities into Enumeration Areas (E.A.) for the April 19 Census.

 “The cartographic mapping serves as the gateway to the Mid Term Housing and Population Census. The Cartographic Mapping process will put communities into Enumeration Areas (E.A.) according data. This census is completely digital; every mapper is given a modernized android phone tablet for the exercise. We have 16 teams across Pujehun district and each team comprises at least 3 individuals 1 team leader and 2 mappers. We will be sending out Quality Assurance Staffs (QAS) for them to vet the data obtained by the mappers.” He noted.

He further intimated that shortlisting is ongoing for persons who will be working as Field Officers, Supervisors and Enumerators for the Mid Term Census slated for 19th April this year.

He ended by calling on indigenes of Pujehun district to support the census activity by helping to sensitive and educate their people about the importance of census.
