His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has welcomed the revival of the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, describing it as a significant development that would strengthen the country’s private sector and contribute to economic growth.
The President made the remarks on Wednesday, 23rd July 2026, at State House in Freetown, where he received members of the newly revived Chamber. He commended the business community for reorganizing the institution to better represent and support traders, investors, entrepreneurs, and businesses across Sierra Leone.
President Bio also welcomed the Chamber’s commitment to supporting the upcoming West Africa Integration and Investment Summit (WAIIS), which is expected to be hosted in Freetown. He noted that the summit will provide an important platform to showcase Sierra Leone’s investment opportunities, promote regional trade, and attract potential investors.
“This government remains committed to strengthening collaboration between the private sector and government,” President Bio said. “A vibrant Chamber of Commerce is essential if we are to create jobs, attract investment, and grow our economy.”
During the meeting, representatives of the revived Chamber briefed the President on their plans to promote a more enabling business environment, support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and collaborate with government institutions to address challenges affecting businesses in the country.
The Chamber members also pledged to mobilize the private sector ahead of WAIIS, which is expected to bring together investors, policymakers, and business leaders from across West Africa. They emphasized that their participation would help ensure Sierra Leonean businesses benefit from the summit through trade exhibitions, partnerships, networking opportunities, and stronger business linkages.
President Bio reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining an open and constructive relationship with the private sector, stressing that sustainable economic development requires strong cooperation between government and businesses.
The revival of the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce comes at a time when the government is implementing reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business, expanding infrastructure, and positioning Sierra Leone as a competitive investment destination within the West African region.
As preparations continue for WAIIS, the Presidency and the Chamber expressed optimism that increased collaboration will create greater opportunities for local businesses and contribute to national economic transformation.
