The recently appointed Commissioner-General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura, is a familiar figure in the country’s tax administration and system. Mrs. Bangura previously served as Deputy Commissioner-General from November 2018 to July 2023, playing a crucial role in managing digitalization programs that transitioned manual processes to fully digital outcomes at the NRA.
With over 25 years of experience in public and financial policy, accounting in government, private, and non-profit sectors, Mrs. Bangura is recognized as an astute financial management expert. Holding the title of Certified Public Accountant and possessing a Master’s degree in Public Administration, she has recently served as Deputy Minister of Finance 1 in the Ministry of Finance for the last five months.
Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura is an active member of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) and the Women Tax Network (AWTIN). Notably, she was elected as Vice Chair of the AWTIN Board. As the first female Commissioner-General of the NRA under the Bio Administration and the second female overall, Mrs. Bangura is set to bring her extensive experience to transform the Sierra Leone Tax Administration.
Described as someone with stunning, innovative, and unorthodox managerial abilities, Mrs. Bangura successfully managed multiple reforms at the NRA during her tenure as Deputy Commissioner-General. Her professionalism, energy, and calm temperament are expected to contribute to the growth and development of the NRA.
During her approval session, Parliamentarians urged the new Commissioner-General to enhance revenue generation efforts and establish professional standards in the country’s tax administration. Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura is committed to going the extra mile to fulfill the aspirations of His Excellency President Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio to elevate Sierra Leone to a medium-income country before the end of his term. Her determination is rooted in her genealogical connection to the late revered Hon. Mannah Kpaka, a loyal member of the grand political party – SLPP.
