The Minister of Transport and Aviation on the 20th March 2023 assured a cross-section of the Sierra Leone Airport Authority Staff that no one will be disadvantaged or left out when making payments for their end-of-service benefits.
He made this statement during an engagement meeting with a cross-section of SLAA staff, Suma Group of Company, SLCAA, SLAA Board members, and the State Council representatives at the Ministry’s Conference Room at the Youyi Building.
Welcoming the delegation to the meeting, the Senior Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Al-Hassan Kondeh expressed his appreciation to the SLAA staff delegation for honouring the invitation of the Minister to attend the meeting.
He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment towards a successful transition of the management and staff to the new administration of the airport, he recalled the ministry’s engagement it had with the general staff of SLAA in January 2023 regarding their end-of-service benefits.
He said because of time they were unable to meet again with the general staff of the Sierra Leone Airport Authority(SLAA) to discuss the status with regards to their end-of-service benefits, noting that the action of some staff to converge cross-section of their members to a meeting about their end of service benefits was unfortunate and uncalled for.
He called on the general staff to remain peaceful and patient as the relevant authorities are working assiduously to ensure that everyone’s entitlement is given accordingly.
In his statement, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Honorable Kabineh Kalloh thanked all for making it a point of duty to attend the meeting, adding that the meeting was an opportunity for all parties to have a frank talk as a family.
He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and successful transition of the Management and staff of the Airport, noting that he has met with the Labor Minister to verify and ascertain the staff’s rightful end-of-service benefits.
“Just as I stand to claim my end-of-service benefit after I leave office as minister, so also you all stand to get your end-of-service benefit” Minister Kalloh maintained.
He said the Ministry would continue to engage the Airport Staff on the processes involved, and as to where they are on their end-of-service benefit, adding that they should work as a team to solve the issue once and for all.
He called for cooperation and collaboration among all parties for an amicable solution to the issue.
In his submission, the SLAA Steward, Mohamed Jim Kamara, thanked the Minister and team for their intervention during his incarnation, adding that the swift intervention of the Honorable Minister is a sign of good leadership.
He appealed to the minister and transition team to work with them as a team and continue the flow of engagement as they only have one country called Sierra Leone, adding that it is only when they speak in one voice they could achieve the one big goal.
