Njaluahun Chiefdom in Kailahun District will go to the polls on Wednesday, September 30, to elect a new Paramount Chief, with Sajor Aziz calling on candidates and their supporters to maintain peace and unity before, during and after the election.
The election follows the declaration of 10 intending aspirants on Thursday, September 24, at the Segbwema Court Barrie by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs in collaboration with the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone. Six of the aspirants have been declared eligible to contest.
As a stakeholder in Njaluahun Chiefdom, Sajor Aziz has embarked on a peace and reconciliation tour involving aspiring ruling houses, including those who were unable to establish their eligibility for the Paramount Chieftaincy.
During his engagements, Sajor Aziz urged the aspirants and their supporters to refrain from provocation and any actions that could undermine peace and security in the chiefdom.
He stressed that the people of Njaluahun are one family and appealed to all candidates to place the interests, unity and development of the chiefdom above individual ambitions.
On Saturday, September 26, Sajor Aziz also held a peace and unity sensitisation programme on Njaluahun Radio, where he encouraged citizens to support a peaceful election and urge the aspirants to maintain calm throughout the process.
He described the contest as a family affair and urged candidates and their supporters to respect one another, stressing that the chiefdom’s peace and unity must be protected regardless of the outcome.
Sajor Aziz commended all the aspirants for offering themselves to serve their chiefdom, describing them as sons of the soil who share a responsibility to protect the peace, dignity and unity of Njaluahun.
His peace campaign has been welcomed by residents of Njaluahun, who are looking forward to a peaceful election and the emergence of a leader capable of advancing the development of the chiefdom.
