During this year’s civil registration exercise nation -wide there were some who took advantage of the opportunity to verify their data, while others failed. In a bid to have concise data that will reflect the entire nation and to verify school going and Non-school going children the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has on the 2nd September, 2021 held meeting with Regional Registration Officer (RRO’s) and District Regional Officer (DRO’s) at the Buxton Memorial Hall in Freetown.
Speaking to the Press NCRA director general, Mr. Mohamed Massaquoi said they had reasons to summon the district registration officers to have a review of work done during the civil registration exercise and its successes. He also throws light on the collection vital statistics ranging from birth, death, marriage divorce, and adoption.
The meeting according to the DG will focus on work done during the last the six months and to plan ahead of the remaining months. He said another reason is to prepare for the confirmation and registration of pupils and non-school going children in the Eastern region, whereas the Southern, Northern-West, and Western region.
Mr. Massaquoi said their expectation is that the DRO and RRO will help in the implementation of NCRA goals, and to have consistency in the activities of the registration authority.
“These individuals will help us man our activities in the Eastern region. We have had similar meetings before embarking on such activities,” said DG.
Mr. Massaquoi added that whatever future plans for the authority and pronouncement there should be high level of consistency in words and deeds, and called on all to work hard in achieving dreams of NCRA.
He reminded all that such activities are funded by the government and will be accountable at the end of the day, therefore he called on all staff of NCRA including the RRO and DRO’s to maintain the good image of the NCRA and to work by its mandates. Though date for the registration of school and non-school going children has not been known, he expressed optimism that it will soon commence.
