The Motema Police Division in Koidu has embarked on a road maintenance exercise aimed at preventing road traffic crashes and promoting public safety as part of its ongoing crime and accident prevention efforts.

The exercise, conducted on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in the heart of Koidu Municipality, was initiated by the Local Unit Commander of the Motema Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Alimamy G. Sesay, with support from the Support Officer at Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters, ASP Dauda Amara Sanu.

The maintenance exercise focused on addressing road conditions that could pose risks to motorists, commercial motorbike riders, pedestrians and other road users.

Speaking to this medium, CSP Sesay said road maintenance and other road safety interventions form part of the Sierra Leone Police Service’s broader strategy to prevent crime and road traffic accidents.

He emphasized that the initiative was not a one-off activity but a continuous effort that would be extended to other communities across the district.

According to him, maintaining safer road environments requires collective responsibility and cooperation among the police, motorists, commercial motorbike riders, pedestrians and community stakeholders.

He therefore urged all road users to support the police’s efforts by exercising caution, respecting one another and complying with traffic regulations to reduce the risk of road traffic crashes.

CSP Sesay further stated that the police would continue to identify and address environmental and road-related conditions that could contribute to accidents, while strengthening community engagement and preventive policing.

He noted that the initiative reflects the Motema Police Division’s commitment to proactive policing, road safety and the protection of lives and property through practical crime prevention measures.

The exercise underscores the Division’s commitment to community-oriented policing, with an emphasis on preventive interventions designed to reduce road traffic crashes and create a safer environment for all road users.
