Morocco continued their impressive World Cup form with a narrow but disciplined 1-0 victory over Scotland in Group C, while Ivory Coast suffered a 2–1 defeat against the Netherlands in a fiercely contested Group E encounter.
Morocco secured all three points thanks to an early goal from Ismael Saibari, who struck inside the opening two minutes after a defensive lapse from Scotland.
The early breakthrough allowed Morocco to control large parts of the match, relying on their structured defensive shape and midfield discipline to frustrate the Scottish attack. Scotland pushed strongly in the second half, but Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou produced key saves to preserve the lead.
Despite late pressure and sustained attacking spells from Scotland, Morocco held firm to secure another valuable victory that strengthens their position in the group and underlines their growing reputation as one of Africa’s most organised sides at the tournament.
In Group E, Ivory Coast were edged out 2–1 by the Netherlands after a competitive encounter that swung back and forth.
The Ivorians started brightly and matched the Dutch in intensity, creating several promising moments in attack. However, the Netherlands gradually asserted their experience and control in midfield, breaking the deadlock through structured attacking play.
Ivory Coast responded well and managed to pull a goal back to stay in contention, but the Dutch side regained control late on and found a decisive second goal to seal victory.
Despite the defeat, Ivory Coast showed resilience and attacking promise, but defensive concentration in key moments proved costly against a clinical European opponent.
The results reflect contrasting fortunes for Africa’s representatives Morocco continuing their strong and disciplined campaign, while Ivory Coast will need to regroup quickly to keep their knockout hopes alive.
