The Honourable Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, has commended the management and students of Fourah Bay College for organizing a successful Annual Inter-Hall Athletics Meeting held on, 25 April 2026, at the Havelock Grounds, Kortright.
Speaking as Distinguished Patron at the event, the Minister expressed gratitude to the college administration for inviting her to witness what she described as a prestigious track and field athletics competition.
She said the occasion demonstrated the true power of sport in promoting physical fitness, emotional growth, mental development and social interaction among young people.
According to the Minister, sporting activities such as the Inter-Hall Meet provide students with an important platform to showcase their talents and pursue excellence, while also encouraging unity and healthy competition.
Madam James-Teima further praised the Sports Committee and organizers for the discipline and orderliness displayed throughout the event. She noted that athletes were properly captured, verified and accredited, describing the process as a sign of professionalism and good sporting standards.
The Minister of Sports urged students to continue embracing the principles of discipline, fairness and respect, which she said remain central to the development of sport.
On behalf of the Ministry of Sports and Government, the Minister presented footballs to the college’s sports department as a token of support. She emphasized that while the event focused on athletics, football also remains an important sport in Sierra Leone and expressed hope that FBC would soon excel in that area as well.
Madam Augusta James-Teima reaffirmed her ministry’s commitment to collaboration with educational institutions for the advancement of sports development across the country.
She concluded by encouraging participants to celebrate both victory and defeat in the true spirit of sportsmanship, stating that rejoicing with winners after competition reflects the real power of sport.
