Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown has sentenced 41-year-old businessman Mohamed Kargbo to 18 months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, Kargbo, on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Model New Road Ataya Base, Freetown, in the Western Area of Sierra Leone, stole US$300 belonging to the complainant, equivalent to NLe7, 200.
When the charge was read and explained to him, Kargbo pleaded guilty.
Police Constable 23308 H.M. Foray, who prosecuted the matter, tendered the convict’s voluntary caution statement as Exhibit A1-6 and the charge statement as Exhibit B1-2. The prosecutor also presented the facts of the case and informed the court that Kargbo was a first-time offender.
In mitigation, Kargbo pleaded with the court for mercy.
Delivering his judgment, Magistrate Fornah took into consideration the fact that Kargbo was a first-time offender and had pleaded for mercy. However, the Magistrate also noted that the convict had permanently deprived the complainant of the US$300.
The court subsequently sentenced Kargbo to 18 months’ imprisonment and ordered him to restore the stolen US$300, or its equivalent of NLe7, 200, to the complainant.
The Magistrate further ordered that the custodial sentence be served in full.
