In a tightly contested match at the Football Academy, Luawa FC staged an impressive comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over Old Edwardians FC in the 2023/24 Leone Rock Premier League season. The win was driven by key substitutes Alhassan James Balde and Abu Bakarr Suma, who both found the back of the net.

The match began with Old Edwardians taking the lead in the 14th minute. Mohamed B. Kamara, assisted by the in-form midfielder Mohamed Fogbowa, scored to put the visitors ahead. Old Edwardians maintained their 1-0 advantage through to half-time, despite Luawa’s persistent efforts to equalize.

However, Luawa FC came out strong in the second half. Just three minutes after the restart, substitute Alhassan James Balde leveled the score, injecting new energy into the home side. The game remained evenly poised until the 83rd minute, when Abu Bakarr Suma, another impactful substitute, netted the decisive goal to complete Luawa’s turnaround and secure all three points.

This victory ended Luawa’s winless run in the second round of the season and maintained their unbeaten record against Old Edwardians, having won three out of their four competitive meetings. The only draw between the two sides this season was a 1-1 result in their first leg encounter at the Trade Centre Field.

The triumph also propelled Luawa FC to 7th position on the league table with 34 points. They have a game in hand against Ports Authority FC, presenting an opportunity to further climb the standings.

In other Leone Rock Premier League action, Bhantal FC and Wilberforce Strikers FC played out a goalless draw at the Approved School playing ground, with both teams failing to capitalize on their chances.

As the season progresses, Luawa FC will look to build on this momentum and continue their ascent up the league table.
