Sierra Leone’s Leone Stars secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Liberia’s Lone Stars at the Southern Arena in Bo, 6th June, 2026, thanks to a 67th-minute close-range finish from Abdul Jarju Kabia. The win marked a memorable return for the national team in front of home supporters and provided a positive start to a new chapter for Sierra Leone football.
Interim Head Coach, John E. Keister, described the victory as part of the team’s ongoing development process, highlighting the organization, structure, and discipline displayed by the players throughout the match. He noted that the performance reflected the progress being made as the team continues to rebuild and prepare for future competitions.
Captain Mustapha Bundu hailed the result as a huge victory and expressed pride in giving Sierra Leoneans a reason to smile after such a long absence of home matches. Bundu also welcomed the arrival of newly appointed head coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa, saying the French tactician would be pleased with the team’s display. He added that the players are eager to begin working under Gomes on the training ground and help elevate Leone Stars to greater heights.
