Kono District Football Association Chiefdom Competition Grand Final Commences

The Kono District Football Association (KDFA) has made history  by commencing the first edition of Chiefdom football Competition in the district. The grand final event, held on April 10th, 2024, was a significant occasion, attended by a variety of dignitaries and officials from across the district.

Prominent attendees included Deputy Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business-2, Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina, Kono District Council Chairman, Mr. Augustine Sahr Sheku Dunkonor, as well as other local authorities, chiefs, and community leaders.

In his speech, Hon. Lamina emphasized the importance of the Chiefdom Competition/league in improving the performance of the district and national teams. He applauded KDFA Chairman Abu Mans for successfully bringing together 14 chiefdoms and expressed his support for future district competitions.

Mr. Sheku Dunkonor, Chairman of Kono District Council, congratulated KDFA and its executives for organizing a well-executed competition. He pledged budgetary support for future editions and presented a prize of 1,000 new Leones to the best player of the tournament.

Hon. S K Momodu, MP for Kono District, praised the organizers for the much-needed competition and wished Sandor Chiefdom the best of luck.

The Chiefdom Speaker of Nimikoro, Chief Komasi, expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the historic event and confidently stated that the champion trophy would go to Nimikoro Chiefdom.

Madam Rebecca Jimmy Yambasu, Deputy Chairperson of Kono District Council, highlighted how football unites people across political parties, tribes, and regions, urging continued sponsorship and support for the sport.

The competition featured intense matches and exciting gameplay, culminating in a 3-2 victory for Nimikoro Chiefdom over Sandor Chiefdom. Nimikoro Chiefdom emerged as the champions of the 2024 KDFA Chiefdom Competition, taking home a prize of 10,000 new Leones, a golden medal, and a golden trophy. Sandor Chiefdom, the runners-up, received 5,000 new Leones, a silver medal, and a silver trophy.

Philip Nakeh of Sandor Chiefdom was awarded the best player of the tournament and received a prize of 1,000 new Leones, provided by Mr. Augustine Sahr Sheku Dunkonor.

The event also honored various stakeholders and institutions for their contributions to the success of the competition.

This memorable football event attracted thousands of football enthusiasts, including talented players from clubs across the district.

On behalf of the KDFA, Assistant General Secretary Tamba Komba expressed gratitude to all attendees, stakeholders, and chiefdom authorities for their support in making this year’s Chiefdom Competition Grand Final a success.
