The Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Sierra Leone Police Kamakwie Division, John S. Koroma, together with his team, paid a courtesy visit to key traditional authorities and stakeholders in Sanda Magbolontho Chiefdom as part of efforts to strengthen community policing and improve security cooperation within Karene District on 9 May 2026.

The engagement, held at Gbogodo Village on Saturday, formed part of ongoing initiatives by the Sierra Leone Police to deepen collaboration with local communities, enhance police visibility, and promote peace and security across the district.

During the visit, Superintendent Koroma and his delegation met with the Paramount Chief of Sanda Magbolontho Chiefdom, Sanda Sorie Jim Abu Sankoh Kintho V, a retired Superintendent of Police. The delegation also held discussions with the Senior District Officer, Abdulai Koroma, focusing on strategies to improve police-community relations and strengthen crime prevention efforts.

Addressing community members and stakeholders, Superintendent Koroma emphasized the importance of trust, cooperation, and information sharing between the police and the public in addressing security challenges. He called for stronger collaboration and mutual understanding between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.

The LUC further encouraged stakeholders to establish a Local Policing Partnership Board to support the work of the police and promote greater community participation in maintaining law and order.

He also urged residents to continue promoting peace and stability within the chiefdom and to work closely with the police in addressing security concerns.

Also speaking at the meeting were Jacob Santigie Conteh, Coordinator of the Office of National Security (ONS) in Karene District, and George Brima, a Community Health Officer attached to the Sendugu Health Centre.

Both speakers emphasized the need to reduce maternal mortality and strongly discouraged home deliveries, urging pregnant women to seek medical care at recognised health facilities.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional authorities, Paramount Chief Kintho V proposed the introduction of by-laws aimed at encouraging pregnant women to give birth at health centres in order to safeguard maternal and child health within the chiefdom.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to supporting community security initiatives and healthcare awareness programmes across the district.
