Located about 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing, Xiong’an New Area is emerging as a “city of the future.” Launched in 2017 as a national strategy, the development aims to ease Beijing’s non-essential functions and promote more balanced, integrated growth across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

Now, Xiong’an is drawing global attention as it hosts the 2026 Global Governance Forum, bringing together delegates from more than 90 countries to discuss the future of global governance in an increasingly turbulent world.

At the opening ceremony, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the growing relevance of China’s Global Governance Initiative, calling for greater efforts to translate its vision into action.

International participants also stressed the importance of upholding the United Nations system, strengthening multilateralism, addressing global inequalities, and building broader international consensus.

What role can China and other major global actors play in shaping a fairer, more inclusive global governance system? And how can countries work together to address shared challenges?

From multilateral cooperation to innovative development, the 2026 Global Governance Forum seeks to rebuild confidence in a changing world and advance the vision of a community with a shared future for all.
