Four defendants have been granted bail by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown after appearing on three counts of alleged grievous bodily harm, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The defendants are 35-year-old businessman Ishmael Turay, 38-year-old bar attendant David Turay, 32-year-old electrician Ibrahim Paul Sangoh, and 32-year-old Mohamed Kamara.

The charges were causing grievous bodily harm with intent, contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861; wounding, contrary to Section 20 of the same Act; and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the Act.

According to the particulars of the first count, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at No. 2 River Community, off  Peninsula Road, in the Western Area of Freetown, the defendants allegedly unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm to Joseph Kamara with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

The second count alleged that, on the same date and at the same location, the defendants unlawfully and maliciously wounded Joseph Kamara.

The third count further alleged that the defendants assaulted Joseph Kamara, thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.

When the charges were read and explained to the defendants, no plea was taken as the matter is before the court for committal proceedings.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Juan M. S. Bull, called two witnesses, who were cross-examined by defence counsel A. O. Gbla.

Defence counsel subsequently adopted his previous bail application on behalf of all four defendants.

Magistrate Jah granted each defendant bail in the sum of Le50, 000, with one surety in a like sum.

The court ordered that the sureties must be Sierra Leonean residents within the Freetown jurisdiction, produce valid identification cards, and be under 40 years of age. The bail is to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The matter was adjourned to October 6, 2026.
