First Bank CEO Seeks Parliamentary Backing

The Chief Executive Officer of First Bank, Mr. Olusegun Alebiosu, on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, led a delegation to meet with the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Segepoh Solomon Thomas, to present a series of investment proposals aimed at supporting Sierra Leone’s economic growth and development.

During the meeting, Mr. Alebiosu thanked the Speaker for hosting the delegation and described Sierra Leone as a second home, noting that the country is renowned for its warm hospitality. He expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Sierra Leone for their continued support of First Bank’s operations in the country.

The CEO disclosed that First Bank intends to implement several strategic projects designed to complement the Government’s development agenda. He emphasized that collaboration between the private sector and government is essential to fostering sustainable economic growth and improving the livelihoods of citizens.

Mr. Alebiosu further informed the Speaker that he had already engaged with H.E. President Julius Maada Bio, the Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, and the Minister of Finance regarding the proposed investments. He appealed for Parliament’s support when the relevant agreements are presented for ratification, reiterating the Bank’s commitment to partnering with the Government to build a strong and viable economy.

In his response, Rt. Hon. Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas commended Mr. Alebiosu and his team for the courtesy visit and formally welcomed the First Bank delegation to Parliament. He highlighted the longstanding historical and cultural ties between Sierra Leone and Nigeria, stating that “we are the same people.”

The Speaker expressed delight at First Bank’s continued presence in Sierra Leone and its commitment to investing in the country’s development. He gave his full endorsement of the proposed initiatives and assured the delegation of Parliament’s unwavering support.

Speaker Thomas further emphasized that H.E. President Julius Maada Bio views regional development beyond national boundaries and remains committed to promoting economic cooperation and investment across West Africa.

The meeting underscored the growing partnership between First Bank and the Government of Sierra Leone, with both parties expressing a shared commitment to driving economic transformation and sustainable development in the country.
