The Finance Minister, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, has led the delegation to the 2025 World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings, taking place in Washington, D.C., from April 21 to 26. The theme of this year’s meetings is “Jobs The Path to Prosperity,” focusing on global economic recovery, job creation, and sustainable development.
Minister Bangura has been actively engaged with the IMF and World Bank in recent years. In October 2024, he participated in an IMF event discussing education and health spending policies in low-income countries.
Additionally, he held talks with a World Bank delegation to discuss Sierra Leone’s economic situation, planned reforms, and World Bank-supported projects.
At the 2025 Spring Meetings, Minister Bangura is expected to engage in discussions on fiscal and debt sustainability, monetary policy operations, inflation control, and social spending. These engagements align with Sierra Leone’s commitment to macroeconomic stability and its ongoing efforts to address economic challenges.
The 2025 World Bank Group and IMF Spring Meeting, scheduled from April 21 to 26 will address key global economic challenges and opportunities, including efforts to reduce inflation, tackle global debt, fund climate finance, and examine the evolving geopolitical landscape. The meeting will feature discussions on the global economic outlook, the progress of the institutions’ work, and critical issues surrounding international development and economic recovery.
The World Bank is working closely with development partners in Sierra Leone to fight poverty, promote economic development, and improve living standards. In 2024, the IMF Executive Board approved a 38-month Arrangement Order for Credit Facilities to Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone’s delegation to the IMF/World Bank Group Spring Meeting includes representatives from the Ministry of Finance, National Revenue Authority (NRA), Bank of Sierra Leone, and Parliament of Sierra Leone.
