Driver Jailed  For Penetrating  8 Yrs-Old  Girl In Makeni

Justice Unisa Kamara presiding Judge in Makeni has denied bail to a vehicle driver for penetrating an eight years old girl in the district.

According to the Police charge sheet, it was alleged that  on Monday 2nd May 2022 in Makeni, Bombali Judicial District in the Republic of Sierra Leone a driver attached to a prominent Bank in Makeni was alleged of sexually penetrating an 8 year old girl, on the aforesaid date.

The survivors aunt maintained that the accused called the 8 year old girl  including some other girls and took them in his vehicle after some time the accused singled out her daughter and took her to his parlour where he allegedly penetrated her.

Meanwhile, when the aunt of the survivor  returned home she met her 8 year old girl in her room crying bitterly  “I asked her what the problem  was, she could not explain, but later told me that the accused who she used to called her uncle has penetrated her, and threatened her not to explain to anybody if she dear explains it to anyone he will do more harm to her the survivor’s” aunt narrated.

However, the survivors’  aunt wasted  no time to report the matter to the police and the police officers upon the report arrested the accused and was placed in police custody noting  after police investigation the matter was charged to court.

Notwithstanding, the state council that was prosecuting the matter led a witness an officer of the family support unit, who testified before the court on Monday 17th October,2022 said after the aunt of the survivor  made a statement, they arrested the accused adding they took  statement  from him,  the aunt and the survivor including other people and they later visited the scene of crime where they took photos of the survivor  when she was bleeding and later sent her to the hospital for medical examination.

 Defence counsel applied for bail for the accused person, however, the Judge denied bail and sent the accuse to the Makeni Correctional centre.

State council Joseph A.K. Sesay prosecuted the matter and a Lawyer from the legal Aid Board Lawyer was the defence counsel.
