In a significant display of commitment to local community development, CTC Mining Sierra Leone Limited has disbursed a substantial sum of Le 2.3 billion in surface rent payments to the Maforki and Marampa Chiefdoms in the Port Loko District. This payment, made on Monday, May 6th, 2024, marks the second tranche of rent provided by the mining company since the commencement of its operations in the country.
Within just one year of operation, CTC Mining SL Limited has achieved remarkable success, exporting an impressive 350,000 tons of Bauxite. Bolstered by this achievement, the company is now poised for ambitious expansion plans aimed at further optimizing its operations.
One of the pivotal strategies in CTC Mining SL Limited’s expansion roadmap, as outlined by the Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Yves El Mallat, is the construction of port and haul road infrastructure slated for completion before the end of 2024. These infrastructural developments are expected to streamline operations, enhancing efficiency and expediting export processes.
David Kanume Koroma PhD, the Project Coordinator of CTC Mining Company, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to empowering local communities through the provision of modern technology and equipment. This initiative, he emphasized, is designed to bolster the skills and capacities of locals, fostering their active engagement and contribution to mining activities.
Government officials, including the Resident Minister of the North-West Region, Ambassador Umaru Bun Wurie, have urged community authorities to judiciously utilize the received funds to catalyze further development in their respective chiefdoms.
Expressing gratitude to CTC Mining SL Limited, the Paramount Chiefs of both Maforki and Marampa Chiefdoms commended the company’s commitment to large-scale mining operations within their communities. They pledged to leverage the rent payments to advance ongoing community development initiatives.
This latest development underscores the escalating significance of responsible and sustainable mining practices in Sierra Leone. CTC Mining SL Limited affirms its dedication not only to bolstering the nation’s economic growth but also to nurturing positive relationships with local communities and fostering their holistic development.
