The National President of the Convent Old Girls Association Makeni (COGAM), Hossinatu Mary Kanu, has officially unveiled plans for the association’s 65th anniversary celebration, scheduled for next year.
The anniversary banner was unveiled on Friday, October 2, 2026, during the prize-giving ceremony marking the conclusion of the school’s 64th anniversary celebrations.
The 65th anniversary will be held under the theme, “It is Here, the Seed is Sown; we are the Harvest.”
Kanu described the early launch of the anniversary plans as significant, noting that the 65th anniversary represents another important milestone in the history of St. Joseph’s Convent Makeni.
“Our celebration next year is as important as the 60th anniversary,” she said.
She disclosed that the COGAM leadership has engaged with the school administration to identify key needs and areas requiring improvement ahead of the anniversary.
According to Kanu, several major projects are being planned to make the celebration memorable, although some details will be kept confidential as part of the preparations.
“We have several big plans in place, but we will keep them under wraps to provide some surprises,” she said.
Kanu also identified the completion of the pavilion project, which was launched two years ago, as one of the association’s priorities ahead of the 65th anniversary.
“We want to create a remarkable celebration that will stand the test of time,” she added.
She noted that COGAM’s executive has, over the years, strengthened coordination and collaboration among its four chapters, particularly in the implementation and supervision of infrastructure projects at the school.
Kanu further revealed plans to establish a diaspora chapter for former students of St. Joseph’s Convent Makeni residing in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States.
She called on the Catholic Mission, the school administration and old girls of St. Joseph’s Convent Makeni to contribute towards the success of the 65th anniversary celebration.
“We have a responsibility to maintain the standards of this school and to make it even greater,” she urged.
With preparations already underway, COGAM is expected to use the 65th anniversary to celebrate the school’s history while advancing projects aimed at improving its facilities and strengthening the association’s contribution to the institution.
