Fifty-year-old Alhaji Umaru Jalloh, a coach, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 on four counts of alleged fraud.
Jalloh is facing one count of conspiracy to defraud, contrary to law, and three counts of obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act, 1916.
According to the particulars of the offences, between January 1 and August 28, 2026, in the Western Area of Freetown, Jalloh allegedly conspired with other persons unknown, with intent to defraud, to obtain money by false pretences.
The second count alleged that, during the same period and at the same place, Jalloh obtained Le115, 718 from Issa Conteh by falsely pretending that he would facilitate Conteh’s travel from Sierra Leone to Canada, knowing the representation to be false.
The third count alleged that Jalloh obtained US$5,600, stated to be equivalent to Le146, 400, from Alhaji Abdul Kamara by falsely pretending that he had 76 foam mattresses for sale, knowing the representation to be false.
The fourth count further alleges that Jalloh obtained Le14, 830 and US$7,774, stated to have a combined equivalent of Le186, 815; from Ibrahim Sory Yousif Kamara by falsely pretending that he would facilitate the travel of Kamara’s brother, Abubakarr Kamara, from Sierra Leone to Canada, knowing the representation to be false.
When the charges were read and explained to Jalloh, no plea was taken, as the matter is before the court for committal proceedings.
The prosecution was represented by Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, Esq., who informed the court that the accused had been served with copies of the case and inquiry files.
Jalloh acknowledged receipt of the documents and appeared without legal representation.
Magistrate Jah subsequently refused bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences, and remanded Jalloh at the Male Correctional Facility.
The matter was adjourned to September 22, 2026, for further proceedings.
