Alfred Kanu, a businessman, on Wednesday 14 January 2026, made his final appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at the Pademba Road Court No. 2, where he was convicted on one count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, the defendant on Sunday, 26 October 2025, at No. 58 Mount Aureol Terrace, Freetown, in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, stole the following items belonging to Ibrahim Sesay including one sky-blue Samsung Galaxy A5 Android mobile phone, valued at NLe 3,000; one bunch of silver keys, valued at NLe 1,500; one gold wristwatch, valued at NLe 2,000, one black cross bag, valued at NLe 100; and a cash sum of NLe 655.
The total value of the stolen items amounted to NLe 7,255.
When the charge was read and explained to him, the defendant pleaded guilty.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sorie Conteh, produced and tendered the voluntary caution and charged statements, which were admitted as Exhibits A1–A9, and the caution statement, marked as Exhibits B1–B3. The prosecutor informed the court that the defendant is a first-time offender.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
In delivering judgment, Magistrate Fornah stated that having considered the guilty plea and the fact that the defendant is a first-time offender, the court sentenced him to twelve (12) months’ imprisonment, or to restore the stolen items to the complainant. The magistrate emphasized that the sentence would be served in full should the defendant fail to restore the stolen goods.
Magistrate Fornah further ordered that all exhibits currently in police custody be returned to the complainant.
