The All People’s Congress (APC) has postponed its pending Constituency Elections to Saturday, July 25, 2026, following security advice from the Office of National Security (ONS). The elections had previously been scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026.

In a public notice issued on Monday, the APC’s National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya Esq., said the decision was reached after a meeting held on July 13 involving the ONS, the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), and the APC leadership.

According to the party, the ONS advised that holding the internal elections on July 18 would not be appropriate due to security and logistical considerations associated with the upcoming ECOWAS Summit, which Sierra Leone is preparing to host. The ONS therefore requested that the party reschedule the elections until after the summit.

“In the interest of national security, public order, and responsible democratic engagement, the National Secretariat has accepted this request,” the statement said.

The APC confirmed that the nationwide Constituency Elections will now commence on Saturday, July 25, 2026. The exercise, which is being coordinated by the party’s Internal Elections Management Committee (IEMC), will elect party officials at the constituency level as part of the APC’s ongoing internal restructuring process.

The party acknowledged that the postponement may inconvenience members, delegates, aspirants, and party officials who have already made extensive preparations for the elections.

“We respectfully ask for your patience, understanding, and continued cooperation, particularly as this postponement has resulted from a request by the Office of National Security in the national interest and was not initiated by the Party,” the Secretariat stated.

The APC further urged its members to remain calm, united, disciplined, and committed to upholding the party’s democratic values throughout the electoral process. It reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, transparent, and credible Constituency Elections and pledged to keep members informed of any further developments.

The statement concluded with a message of solidarity:

“Together, in unity and comradeship, we shall continue to strengthen our Party.”

The APC, whose motto is “Action Progress Commitment,” has been conducting a series of internal elections across the country as part of efforts to strengthen its structures ahead of future national elections.

Meanwhile, security measures have been intensified across Sierra Leone as the country prepares to host the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit, an event expected to bring together regional leaders and senior government officials under heightened security arrangements.

The APC National Secretariat said it will continue to monitor developments and provide timely updates to members across all regions as preparations for the rescheduled elections continue.
