In a significant move to combat corruption, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today launched its 5th Generation Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2024-2028.
This new framework shifts the focus towards leveraging technology and digitization as pivotal tools in the fight against corruption.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the ACC headquarters in Freetown, where officials highlighted the importance of this updated strategy in enhancing transparency and efficiency in anti-corruption measures.
The new strategy builds on the previous 4th Generation plan (2019-2023), which centered around the concept of strong enforcement, emphasizing the need for robust laws and their implementation.
“We have made significant strides in enforcing anti-corruption laws,” said Francis Ben Kaifala, the Anti-Corruption Commissioner. “Now, it’s time to take the next step by integrating technology to not only prevent corruption but also streamline enforcement processes.”
The 5th Generation Strategy aims to utilize advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and blockchain to identify and mitigate corrupt practices proactively.
By digitizing processes, the ACC seeks to enhance accountability and accessibility, making it easier for citizens to report corruption and for authorities to track illicit activities.
This strategic pivot comes in response to the evolving nature of corruption, which increasingly exploits technological loopholes. The ACC aims to stay ahead by fostering collaboration with tech companies and innovators to develop solutions tailored to the unique challenges of corruption in Sierra Leone.
The launch of this strategy marks a critical moment in the ACC’s efforts to create a more transparent and accountable system. With the commitment to embracing technology, the ACC is poised to not only tackle corruption more effectively but also to inspire confidence among the public in the integrity of governance.
As the ACC embarks on this ambitious journey, the focus remains clear: to prevent corruption through innovation and to enforce the law with renewed vigour, ensuring a brighter future for Sierra Leone.
