The land tussle between the Head Mistress of the Rural Education Committee (REC) School in Hastings and Dauda Finnor Sesay and Musa Peteh Sesay will be looked at today, Thursday 12th August by the Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senessie whose intervention is believed, will resolve the issue once and for all.
A letter dated 31st March, 2021 written by the Chairman of the Waterloo District Council, Kashow Holland- Cole, states: I write to officially inform you that the property situated at Old Railway Line, Hastings is the property of Mr.Dauda Finnor Sesay and Mr. Musa Peteh Sesay.
It further States that the Western Area District Council has carefully investigated the matter and proved that our REC School at Hastings does not extend to the property of the Sesay family. In this letter, the Chairman mentioned that the Council has advised the Head Mistress Madam Adama Jalloh to desist from making claims to the property and give access to the rightful owners but has refused to adhere to that instruction for reasons best known to her.
A letter from the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, Israel B.K. Jigba dated 12th July, 2021 reads: I have attached compelling evidence provided by the Western Area Rural District Council which is the proprietor of the REC School.
The letter recommends that the parcel of land measuring about five town lots of land claimed by the Sesay family be maintained by the family while the rest of the land is retained by the school.
However, this issue is expected to come to a rest now that it has reached the table of the Minister after passing through other senior officials without solution as intimidation goes on between the school and the Sesay family who claim that the land was allocated to their grandparents by the Lands Ministry of Sierra Leone which they started developing long ago.
The Headmistress, Adama Jalloh had stood her ground that the Sesay family is trying to encroach into the school property. She denied using pupils as thugs to intimidate the Sesay family. A-Z newspaper will continue to follow this issue until it reaches its logical conclusion.
