The Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Distribution and Supplying Authority (EDSA), Mohamed B. Sheriff has said that the new meters will stop the illegal use of the power.

Speaking to A-Z Newspapers in Bo, Mr. Sheriff said that the installation of new meters started in Freetown and the activities rolled over to the provinces. He noted that the expansion and rehabilitation of the Bo- Kenema Power Network was catering for fifty thousand meters for Bo and Kenema but have so far received thirty thousand meters. He said the fifty thousand meters will be sufficient to ensure that people have access to the light.

‘’ Bo and Kenema have expanded and the demand for the power is high, ’he said.

Mr. Sheriff said that with the new meters coming, measures are in place to stop or track down those who want to illegally use the power. He added that the meters will now be fixed on the poles instead of on the houses as this will help stop the leakages, to ensure that the people go through the right way to get the light.

‘’ If anybody runs a line into the new meter on the pole, the person will be easily tracked and action will be taken against that person,’’ he said. He added that the good part of the new meter is that it has a power regulatory mechanism that will prevent household appliances from burning or being damaged.

Mr. Sheriff added that “the unique aspect of the new meter is that if there is low voltage it will also help to regulate the power to be used by their customer and we want to give quality service to our precious customers.’’

He called on their customers to report any problem that they might encounter in accessing the power as there will be swift response to their concerns and encouraged the public to keep eyes on EDSA property.

“The Energy Minister is committed to providing sustainable power supply for the people of  Bo and the country as a whole but must be given the support to achieve the objective ,’’ PRO Sheriff concluded.
