The management of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has unveiled the jerseys of its football team, popularly known as the “Waterfront Boys,” ahead of its opening match in the 2026 Inter-Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) Football Tournament.
The unveiling ceremony was held on Monday, 26 October 2026, and was led by SLPHA Board Chairman, Hon. Manso Dumbuya; Director General, Yankuba Askia Bio; and Deputy Director General, Judith Kosseh. Directors and staff of the Authority were also present.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director General Yankuba Askia Bio urged the team’s match coordinators to ensure proper planning and preparation ahead of every fixture to strengthen SLPHA’s chances of winning the tournament.
He emphasised that the competition should be treated with the utmost seriousness, noting that other participating MDAs were equally determined to win the coveted trophy. He therefore challenged the players to demonstrate their footballing ability on the pitch while encouraging the technical team to prepare thoroughly and approach every match with determination.
“It used to be a comic league, but not anymore. As your team captain, I want nothing besides that trophy,” Mr. Bio said, stressing his expectation that the team would compete for the championship title.
The Waterfront Boys will begin their campaign against the Office of the President on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the National Stadium Practice Field in Freetown.
The team is expected to approach its opening fixture with determination as it seeks to make a strong start in the competition and pursue the ultimate prize.
