China recorded an estimated 2.14 billion cross-regional passenger trips from October 1 to 7 during the National Day holiday, averaging about 306 million trips per day, according to the Ministry of Transport.
Road travel remained the dominant mode of transportation, accounting for more than 1.96 billion trips. Nearly 80 percent of these trips were made by private vehicles, while travel involving new energy vehicles increased by 35 percent year on year.
China’s railway sector handled 152 million passenger trips during the seven-day holiday, according to China State Railway Group. Daily railway passenger traffic exceeded 20 million trips on six of the seven days.
Foreign arrivals also remained strong during the holiday, with 682,000 entries by foreign nationals recorded in China, representing a 5.4 percent increase compared with the same period last year, according to the National Immigration Administration.
Meanwhile, 505,000 foreign entries were recorded under China’s visa-free policies, an increase of 9.2 percent year on year.
