The Speaker of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has deepened diplomatic ties with the President of the Republic of Guinea, H.E. General Mamadi Doumbouya, on the margins of the State Opening of the 10th Legislature of the 5th Republic of Guinea.
Speaker Thomas, who led a high-powered parliamentary delegation to Conakry at the invitation of the Speaker of the Guinean National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Dansa Kourouma, held a brief but highly cordial meeting with President Doumbouya shortly after the official opening ceremony.
During the meeting, Speaker Thomas conveyed fraternal greetings and best wishes from His Excellency President Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the Government and people of Sierra Leone to the President, Government and people of Guinea. He also congratulated President Doumbouya on his recent election and commended him for his leadership in steering Guinea through its democratic transition.
Speaker Thomas described the relationship between Sierra Leone and Guinea as historic, natural and unbreakable, noting that the two nations share common ethnicity, culture, language and ethnicity.
The meeting is described as warm and brotherly, is expected to open new avenues for enhanced collaboration between the two Mano River Union neighbours.
Speaker Thomas reaffirmed the commitment of the Parliament of Sierra Leone to work closely with the National Assembly of Guinea in advancing parliamentary diplomacy, peace and development in the West African sub-region.
